Library Trustee Minutes 05.01.15

Minutes from May 1, 2015

The Board Meeting for the Trustees of Brown Memorial Library was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

Attendance:      Patty Furness, Connie Scheffy,  Erica Gross, Nola Jordan, Sandy Wadlington, Meg Fearnley, Garry Kalajian

1. The secretary’s report for the April meeting was presented. The ninth sentence of item #5 was corrected to read as follows, “The library trustees will hold two book and plant sales, one on May 22 and one on July 4. There will be an additional book sale on September 5.” The minutes were then accepted as corrected.

2. A motion was made and passed to accept donations to Brown Memorial Library in the amount of $109.00, which consisted entirely of proceeds from the ongoing book sale. Nola reported that our electric bill has dropped due to the new contract now in effect. It was necessary to accept one additional delivery of fuel oil to carry through the lingering cold weather. There should be no further need for additional oil at this time. The treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.

3. Meg reported that the Monday story hour continued to bring in mothers of young children. Numbers in all areas appeared to be on target. There was an increase in the number of library patrons from March to April.

4. Under new business, the need for volunteers for the upcoming book and plant sale on May 23 was discussed. All shifts have been filled.

5. In other business, Patty described low voltage lighting that might provide an inexpensive, more efficient, effective method of lighting the walkway than the individual solar lights. She will investigate further. Installation of such lighting might be combined with realigning and resetting the bricks and stones along the sidewalk. Meg will look into possible individuals to perform this work.

6. Consideration was given to the possible ways to replace current florescent lighting within the library with LED lighting. Costs and benefits of making this change were discussed. It appeared that the change would be worth the money. Meg will investigate pricing and companies. Trustees also began a discussion of the benefits of solar panels for the roof. Sandy shared information on a company who would come to a meeting to explain the process and answer questions without cost. Sandy will continue to research this. There are many factors to consider and the trustees are only gathering information at this time.

7. Sandy will provide gravel to place at the bottom of the first step on the library path to raise the level of the ground and help make the first step less of a stretch.

8. Under old business, it was reported that there is a small patch of the roof that still requires repairing, and that is the reason roofing materials are still on the property.

9. Planning continued for the Fourth of July float. At the June meeting more concrete plans will be outlined and confirmed.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 6:00 p.m.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:50 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Connie Scheffy, Secretary
