Trustees of Brown Memorial Library Minutes 04.06.09

DRAFT Minutes from April 6, 2009
Board Meeting for the Trustees of Brown Memorial Library

Attendance:  Joan Perry, Bea Howe, Penny Ulrich, Rod Jones,Robert Manchester, Patty Furness & Meg Fearnley

1.  The trustees welcomed new trustee Patty Furness.  Officers were elected:
Joan Perry – chair;  Erica Gross – secretary;  Bea Howe – treasurer

2.  The minutes from the last meeting were read and accepted.

3.  A motion was made to accept gifts and donations made to Brown Memorial Library in March in the amount of $624.50.   The book sale was responsible for most of this and the on-going book sale gave it a boost.  It was decided to take some of the books to the new sale set up on Sundays from 9-3 in the building at the corner of Rt. 103 and Main Street.  Half of our appropriation from the town will be released this month.  The treasurer’s report was accepted.

4.  The librarian’s report was read.   March circulation is up.  The children’s circulation is down from last year.  The pre-schoolers are coming back now that the weather allows them to walk safely through the town’s streets.

5.  There have been a growing number of complaints about the slow internet connection.  TDS presently doesn’t charge us for the line, but it was decided to ask them for a faster connection, even if we have to pay for it.  Motion was made and passed to expend the funds to purchase the fastest internet connection available.

6.  It was decided to purchase a mailbox and give up our post office box to save money.

7.  Bea gave a report on upcoming Friends activities.  The Easter egg hunt is this Saturday at 11 am.  There will be a self-published authors’ night April 22nd at 7 pm.  There will be a meeting on April 15th at 5 pm at the library to discuss the upcoming Summer Reading Program (held on four Saturday mornings in July & August).  Trustee Penny has volunteered to run the program on the last Saturday.  We will be thinking about the parade to coordinate with the Summer Reading Program theme.  Also the book bag designs are almost ready.  The book bags, for adults and children, will be used to raise funds.

8.  Penny will do a Mother’s Day craft program again this year.

9.  The next book sale will be held on May 23rd.  Plants will also be offered for sale.  Volunteers are set.

The next meeting will be May 4 at 7 pm.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Rod Jones, acting secretary
