Cemetery Commission Minutes 05.01.23

Meeting called to order at 10:10 am.

Present: Marlene Freyler, Sheila Denoncourt, Erica Gross

  •  Jarna Perkins attended the meeting to update the commission with recent work.
  • It had been noticed that at Sunny Plains the grave stones of Audrey Dodge and Walter Blunt had begun to sink and a Rowell stone had tipped over. Verne Clow brought in his tractor with stone and seed and with help from Gary and Jarna Perkins were able to raise all 3 stones.
  •  Jarna mentioned that the new loam will not be able to handle the heavy equipment from FVB Landscaping going over it. This will create more sunken stones. We will ask FVB to weed whack only around these stones.
  • Keith from Cornerstone will be meeting with Jarna on Thursday, May 4th, to go over more of the needed gravestone repairs. There is one stone in Sunny Plains that may be beyond repair.
  • Gary and Jarna will also turn the water on and clean up a bit down in the water pump area. Later this season, Gary will meet with Paul Gross to teach him what needs to be done with the water pump.
  • After Jarna left, Marlene made a motion to approve the minutes of February 27, 2023. Erica seconded the motion to approve the minutes. Sheila Denoncourt was sworn in by Erica Gross, Town Clerk.

All in favor, 3-0

  • Marlene mentioned that Dick Perron offered to bring his transom to Sunny Plains to help straighten the rows.
  • Marlene also let the commission know that according to RSA 289;18, after 50 years, if a cemetery plot is still empty it will revert back to the town.
  • Green Burials were discussed. There are 2 types of green burial.
  • Next day burial – the plot is dug deeper, just the body goes in and the mound is made higher.
  • Marlene and Sheila will attend the next Municipal Trustees Training workshop on Thursday, June 8th.
  • It was decided that a Cemetery Commission meeting will be held on June 5th just to go over the 4 signs we want to have made. Another meeting will be setup in June after Marlene and Sheila have attended the State meeting.
