Library Trustee Minutes 04.02.14

Minutes from July 2, 2014

The Board Meeting for the Trustees of Brown Memorial Library was called to order at 6:07 p.m.

Attendance:    Patty Furness, Nola Jordan, Meg Fearnley, Erica Gross, Garry Kalajian, Bea Howe, Robert Toppi
1. Bob Toppi was seated as a voting member.

2. The Secretary’s report was accepted as presented.

3. A motion was made and passed to accept donations to Brown Memorial Library in June in the amount of $102.00. $61.00 of that amount came from our on-going book sale, $15.00 from book bags, and $26.00 from general donations.  The line item for payroll is higher than normal because Bea had to make the quarterly tax payment.  Otherwise our finances are right on target.   The treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.

4. Meg reported that our circulation figures for June look good.  The number of children’s books going out continues to increase and Laurie has been drumming up excitement for the Summer Reading Program which will take place on the four Mondays of July.  Meg was able to find out that in the month of June 22 individual patrons downloaded audio books and/or e-books.

5. Under Old Business, the Trustees made plans to cover the Fourth of July weekend book sale on Saturday, July 5, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.  They also discussed the final details for our float, Get a Clue at the Library.  Erica and Bea designed two Clue boards for each side of the float and two large dice will be suspended above.  Trustees will be dressed as various characters from the classic game. Everyone is to assemble on Old Warner Road before 3:30.

6. Patty reported that a second roofer has agreed to look at the roof and give us a quote.   The third person has not gotten back to her so she will try someone else as we need to have three quotes for the Capital Improvement Program application.

7. Under New Business, Meg reported she has hired a page for Sunday afternoons.  She also mentioned that she has purchased a tablet for use in the children’s room.  She is looking for a program/app that will limit access to the internet but that can easily be overridden by the librarians as needed so that they don’t have to leave the children’s room to access a computer.

8. A number of activities are coming up next month.  They include the free Summer Theater Workshop for children, the fund-raising dinner the Masons are sponsoring for the library on August 16, and “Not So Elementary, Dear Watson”, a program sponsored by the NH Council on the Humanities, on August 21.  Patty mentioned that the Conservation Commission will be hosting a program about loons by Kitty Wilson next month as well.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 6:30 p.m.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Nola Jordan, Secretary
