Library Trustee Minutes 10.06.10

Minutes from October 6, 2010

The Board Meeting for the Trustees of Brown Memorial Library was called to order at 5:55 p.m.

Attendance: Patty Furness, Lorraine MacLeod, Bea Howe, Joan Perry + Wilbur , Rod Jones, Meg Fearnley, Nola Jordan

1. The Secretary’s Report was accepted as presented.

2. A motion was made and passed to accept gifts and donations to Brown Memorial Library in September in the amount of $353.00. That amount includes the proceeds ($303.00) from the Labor Day book sale as well as a $50.00 donation. The Treasurer’s Report was accepted as presented.

3. The Librarian’s Report was presented and discussed. We had fewer patrons in September but the amount of materials in circulation increased. One noticeable drop was in the use of downloadable audio books and e-books.

4. The next book sale will take place Saturday, October 9, over the Columbus Day weekend.

5. With a lot of careful number-crunching Bea has managed to prepare a budget for 2011 that shows a 0% increase. The Budget Committee has asked all entities receiving town funds to show how a 5% decrease would affect them. Bea is convinced such a cut would be devastating and will explain and defend the budget at tonight’s Budget Committee meeting.

6. Joan’s term of office expires in March and she announced that she will not run again. Trustees were asked to suggest names of people who might be interested in serving. Rod and Patty’s terms also expire and both are willing to run again.

7. Bea reported that all the problems cited by the state Labor Department have been corrected. In order to be in compliance with Labor Department regulations, all volunteers will now have to fill out and sign a volunteer service agreement.

8. Bea has approached Andrew Pinard about giving the library a better spot on the town web site. After the Farmer’s Market is done for the season, we will get their slot.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, November 3, at 6:00 p.m.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Nola Jordan, Secretary
