Bradford Conservation Commission Meeting Minutes

January 19, 2016, 7pm at Brown Memorial Library

Present: George Beaton, Seth Benowitz, Nathanial Bruss, J Ann Eldridge, Meg Fearnley, Patty Furness, Brooks McCandlish. Also in attendance, Lynn Gross, owner of Map 3/Lot 89, and her representatives.

Secretary’s Draft Report: The meeting minutes of 12/15/15 were reviewed and accepted as read.

Treasurer’s Report: Meg noted that $2.11 interest was earned last month on accounts.

Map 3/Lot 89 Potential Business Site: The wetlands scientist representing Lynn Gross, owner of this lot on Rte 103, presented site maps for member’s consideration and review. The project will now go to the Zoning Board of Adjustment with an application for a variance to the buffer ordinance.

2016 Saving Special Places: The annual workshop will take place Saturday, April 9, 2016 in Alton at Prospect Mountain High School. Workshop details will be announced in February.

Ausbon Sargent Land Protection Trust Outreach: Seth reported on this 01/04/16 meeting. Upcoming events include an Emerald Ash Borer workshop Thursday, February 4, 6:30pm in Wilmot (led by Dode Gladders), and a snowshoe outing Saturday, March 5, 1-3pm at the Wendell Marsh in Sunapee (led by Andy Deegan). Detailed information is on the ASLPT website.

2016 Coverts Program: Interested individuals are encouraged to apply to this adventurous and unique educational experience.

Map 8/Lot 25, E Washington Road Inquiry: A potential buyer of this narrow 400 ft wide, 31 acre lot approached the BCC regarding gaining access to the property. Brooks stated that a wetlands permit and variance would be needed; the individual will be referred to a wetlands scientist.

2015 Annual Report: Ann presented the Annual report for review.

Fairgrounds Road Excavation: There was a concern expressed by a resident regarding possible loam excavation without proper permit on Fairgrounds Road. The matter was referred to the Selectmen.

Conservation Project: There is a potential conservation property on Jewett Road, a seasonal class 5 road; a variance will be necessary in the division of this land. Application will be submitted to the Planning Board.

Outreach Activity: Ann mentioned a possible porcupine presentation/slide show featuring Bob, the notorious rascal of Rowe Mountain. Another suggestion was a showing of the movie ‘Dirt’.

The meeting adjourned at 8:20pm. The next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, February 16, 2016, 7pm at Brown Memorial Library.
