Bradford Conservation Commission Draft Minutes of Meeting

October 18, 2022

Brown Memorial Library

Present: Ann Eldridge-Chair, Meg Fearnley-Treasurer, Doug Southard, George Beaton, Brooks McCandlish, Seth Benowitz, Nathaniel Bruss, Scott MacLean

Lindsey White-guest speaker, Eversource representative.

Minutes from the previous meeting were reviewed. Brooks McCandlish made a motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Meg Fearnly and approved by a unanimous vote of the committee.

Correspondence:

Lindsey White presented Eversource plans to retire 134 power line poles, many in Bradford, adjacent to route 103 from the Warner town line, behind the Warren Brook Fields, continuing to the west toward Route 114. Her presentation included how they will manage working in the wetlands along this route.

The project was conditionally approved by a unanimous vote of the committee following a review of the actual plans and answers to any concerns.

Treasure’s report:

Meg Fearnley reviewed the BCC budget status with the committee. A motion to submit the same budget request as 2022 to the town was made, seconded , discussed and unanimously approved by the committee.

Ann Eldridge reported on the following issues:

The abnormal Ph readings taken from the Hoyt Brook at the Jones Road Bridge have since self corrected. Investigation for potential cause upstream did not reveal any significant findings.

Email conversations continue with Ben Nugent of NH Fish and Game regarding the need for a point person to oversee the data collection at Hoyt Brook. Several names were mentioned as possible volunteers for this important research. Ann also mentioned that there is a training session for Hoyt Brook data collection on Saturday October 22.

Conservation:

No further news was available at the time of the meeting on grants for UNH cedar research.

The Headwaters project: private donations are being processed. Decisions from Q2C funding source should be known soon and LCHIP and Mooseplate decisions should be announced in November.

George Beaton reported the following:

Seth Benowitz and George Beaton installed a new sign at the Battles Easement.

Seth Benowitz, Doug Southard, and George Beaton attended the Knights Hill Trail work day on October 16,2022. Additional work will need to be completed.

George Beaton continues to replace planks at the Bradford Bog trail.

Other business:

The committee discussed hosting another hike or two in the upcoming months. No specific plans were made.

George Beaton and Doug Southard will be attending the annual NH Conservation Commission meeting in November.
