Covered Bridge Design Contest

To Cover the Bridge at the end of Lake Massasecum

 

CONTEST ENTRY FORM

 

This is your chance to become a part of Bradford History and Design a Structure to cover the Bridge at the end of Lake Massasecum.

 

The Bridge deck is scheduled for repair and the bridge will be

reopened the summer of 2014

 

Please complete the following and return with your design

to the Selectmen’s Office at the Bradford Area Community Center

no later than 12:00 noon December 31st, 2013.

Contest is open to Bradford Year Round Residents in grades 1st thru 12 and College students thru senior year. Categories will be judged in the following categories:

 

Grades 1-5th – $100.00 prize

Grades 6th-8th $100.00 prize

Grades 9th-12 $100.00 prize

College Freshmen-Senior $100.00

Overall Design Winner $500.00

 

There will also be a category for sign design. This category will be open to all Bradford Residents and Children – $100.00

 

Bridge Design Winners will be announced by January 6th, 2014

Sign Design winner will be announced by May 1st, 2014

Bridge Location – Breezy Hill Road end of Lake Massasecum

Bridge Design Criteria:

1. Original Design

a. Some duplication of other Covered Bridges is understood

b. Combination of ideas could be appropriate

c. Details and Precise Design are a plus

d. How the structure fits into the neighborhood & antiquated features will be important factors.

2. Dimensions:

a. Length: Open length from beam to beam is 36 feet

i. Note:

1. West has a 25 foot apron

2. East End has a 27 foot apron

b. Width: 14 feet

c. Height – only limited by design

d. Structure must rest/be affixed on/to I-Beams in place

3. One car/pick-up truck traffic

a. Pedestrian/fishing/bike lane

b. No large vehicles

i. Fire Trucks will use other access

ii. Small Town Truck to Plow

c. Other uses?

4. Bridge is to be covered

a. No restrictions re the materials used for roof

b. Sides design(s) no restrictions at all
