Library Trustees 04.02.14

Minutes from April 2, 2014

The Board Meeting for the Trustees of Brown Memorial Library was called to order at 6:05 p.m.

Attendance:    Mary-Chris Duncan, Nola Jordan, Robert Toppi, Patty Furness, Garry Kalajian, Meg Fearnley, Bea Howe, Connie Scheffy
1. The secretary’s report was accepted as presented.

2. A motion was made and passed to accept donations to Brown Memorial Library in March in the amount of $207.00. $43.00 of that amount came from our on-going book sale and $160.00 from general donations. An additional $4.00 came from the sale of a book bag. Bea reported that we have used up all the oil we pre-bought from Ayer and Goss and will now have to pay for any additional fuel that we use.  Fortunately we are near the end of the heating season.  The treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.

3. Meg reported that while the overall number of patrons who come into the library is down, the number of e-book and audio book downloads continue to grow.  However, we were reminded that last year Easter was in March, thus accounting for a good part of the difference in numbers between this year and last.

4. Under Old Business, Meg reported that the New Hampshire Astronomical Society will hold its presentation on Friday, May 30, 2014, at Sherman’s Field on Pleasant View Road, past the Inn and across from the cemetery.  The Town Administrator has issued a certificate of insurance for the landowner. May 31 will be the rain date.

5. Garry reported that he has made contact with the appropriate person at the Prison Sign Shop and knows how he needs to proceed in order to get a quote.  He will send them a photo of our current sign along with the information we want on the new one.

6. Under New Business, the returning, i.e. reelected, Trustees, Patty Furness, Erica Gross, and Connie Scheffy, were officially welcomed. The current slate of officers was reelected to serve again in the coming year.

7. The Friends of Brown Memorial Library will once again sponsor an Easter Egg hunt on Saturday, April 19.

8. Erica and Bea have volunteered to represent the library at the first meeting of the Central NH Regional Planning Commission.

9. Meg mentioned that a Book Discussion Group will begin meeting on the second Wednesday of the month beginning next week, April 9.

10. This Friday, April 4, the library is co-sponsoring a performance by the balladeer, Jim Barnes, at noon at the Bradford Community Center.

11. On Sunday, April 14, there will be a Garden Forum and Seed Swap at the library from 12:00 to 2:00.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Nola Jordan, Secretary
