Parks and Recreation Minutes 06.10.21

Meeting called to order at 5:37pm

Members Present-Devin Pendleton (Chair), Jonathan Roy (Vice Chair), Katie Olohan, Joel Banaszak

Members Absent- Bruce Edwards

Committee members Joel Banaszak, Jon Roy, and Devin Pendleton were sworn in by the Town Clerk.

Attendant for French’s Park- An attendant has been hired. She will start on Friday, June 18. Uniform shirts need to be ordered. Order minimum is 12 shirts.

Motion by Katie Olohan to approve $104.50 for shirts for Park attendant and members of BPRC.

Signage is needed for French’s Park to inform visitors to stop for attendant. Committee discussed that a letterboard sign can be used at French’s Park and elsewhere after the lake season to promote events. Signs are also needed to promote Independence Day fireworks.

Motion by Joel Banaszak to spend up to $300 on signs.

Bement Bridge reopening ceremony- The Town has asked BPRC to help at the Bement Bridge opening ceremony. Katie, Devin, and Jon are available to help. Arrive at 1pm.

Women’s Summer Softball League- P&R is putting together a team to play in the summer league hosted by Warner Parks and Rec. Registration fee for the league is $200 and will be split amongst the players.

4th of July Updates- Devin will put out signs for the fireworks and contact the Police Dept about putting a message on the electronic sign. Fireworks rain date is September 25. Committee discussed ideas for a September 25 event including music, kids’ activities, food trucks, parade.

Basketball- Discussed hosting a weekly basketball pickup game at Brown Shattuck basketball court.

French’s Park- Water testing will be conducted this month. Samples need to be brought to Eastern Analytical in Concord. Devin presented the monofilament recycling bin program from Boat US. Suggested building a fishing line bin and installing at French’s Park as discarded fishing line is frequently found there. Will look for donations for materials.

Motion by Devin Pendleton to expend up to $50 for materials and sign for fishing line recycling bin to be installed at French’s Park.
