Library Trustee Minutes 01.06.16

Brown Memorial Library Trustees
Meeting Minutes, Wednesday January 6, 2016

The Board Meeting for the Trustees of Brown Memorial Library was called to order at 6:10 p.m. In attendance were: Connie Scheffy, Nola Jordan, Garry Kalajian, Meg Fearnley, Peter Blank, and Patty Furness.

1. The secretary’s report was presented from the December 2, 2015 meeting. A motion was made and passed to accept the minutes.
2. The treasurer’s report was presented for December. The library received donations in the amount of $554: $184.70 from the on-going book sale, and $370.00 in general donations. A motion was made and passed to accept the donations. The budget committee has not yet met to consider the library budget.  Details should be available at the time of the next meeting. A motion was made and passed to accept the treasurer’s report.
3. The librarian’s report was presented.  Circulation for the past year was down from last year, but program attendees and patron numbers were up slightly. There was a brief discussion regarding how books for the library are selected and where they are purchased.
4. Under new business, it was reported that the snow removal process is being well taken care of.
5. Under old business, the outdoor pathway lighting is on hold. The control box is too big to use in current circumstances. It was decided that we will keep the lamp post holiday lights on for the time being to provide adequate lighting. Replacing indoor lights with LED lights and fixtures remains under consideration.
6. A reminder to trustees whose terms are expiring in March and who wish to serve again– don’t neglect to file at the Town Clerk’s office during the appropriate time period.
7. The Humanities Council will be presenting a free talk by Steve Taylor on “Poor Houses and Town Farms: The Hard Row for Paupers” on Thursday January 28 at 7:00 pm at the Brown Memorial Library. This program is co-sponsored by the Bradford Historical Society.
8.  The library will be closed on Monday January 18 in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
The next meeting will be held on February 3 at 6:00 pm.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:00 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Connie Scheffy, Secretary
