Library Trustees 11.03.10

Minutes from November 3, 2010

The Board Meeting for the Trustees of Brown Memorial Library was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

Attendance: Patty Furness, Lorraine MacLeod, Bea Howe, Joan Perry + Wilbur, Rod Jones, Meg Fearnley, Nola Jordan

1.    The Secretary’s Report was accepted as presented.

2.    A motion was made and passed to accept gifts and donations to Brown Memorial Library in October in the amount of $533.75.  That amount includes the proceeds ($208.75) from the Columbus Day book sale as well as donations of $225.00 made in memory of Isabel Sheehan.  Bea made a presentation before the budget committee last month to explain how a 5% decrease would impact the library.  She decided that the most effective way to accomplish that goal was to present the entire budget (which shows a 0% increase).  She has not had any feedback from the Committee nor has she heard when the budget will come before the Selectmen.  The Treasurer’s Report was accepted as presented.

3.    The Librarian’s Report was presented and discussed.  We are just about on target for this time of year.  Overall circulation was up a little though the total number of patrons dropped a bit.

4.    Joan read a letter of resignation from Erica Gross.  Because of heavy work commitments she is unable to attend meetings and will not finish out her term.  Joan will send Erica a letter of appreciation for all she has done during her time as a Trustee.  In this situation, the Trustees make a recommendation to the Board of Selectmen who then make the appointment.  The appointee will serve until the end of Erica’s term when he or she may stand for office.  We now need the names of at least two candidates because Joan is not running for reelection in March.

5.    The Trustees authorized the Kearsarge Health Coalition to hold one of their monthly meetings at the library.   (They like to move their meetings around to the various towns in the district.)  The meeting will take place December 8 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.  Nola will come down at 8:30 to make sure the building is locked.

6.    Patty suggested that before winter sets we get the picnic table moved to the side of the building and cover it.

7.    The Conservation Commission and the Library are co-sponsoring a program on eagles Friday, November 12, at 7:00 p.m at the Community Center.  Patty and Bea volunteered to bring food.  Meg will ask the Conservation folks to bring drinks and paper goods.
.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, December 1, at 6:00 p.m.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:25 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Nola Jordan
Secretary
